Android 2.3.5 OTA update for the HTC Wildfire S rolling out now

The latest phone be get the new Android 2.3.5 update from HTC is the low-end HTC Wildfire S. We are getting reports from our readers that the Wildfire S update to Android 2.3.5 includes quite a few bug fixes for phone calling and device unlock issues that have plagued the handset for months. While the HTC Desire HD and Incredible S were given an updated version of HTC Sense, users of the Wildfire S may be disappointed to hear that Sense 3.0 is not included in this latest update. Our assumption is that the processor inside the Wildfire S simply isn’t powerful enough to handle the 3D graphics included in Sense 3.0.

HTC has not released any details about the Android 2.3.5 update for the HTC Wildfire S, so we’re not sure which markets it will hit first. You can always try to manually download the update by pressing Menu > Settings> About phone> Software updates > Check for update.

  1. Yes, my friend remind me about the update. So i checked it and it was true. So when i wanted to insd started installing, but it was about 49 mb…& my internet data was law so i discard it.
    But today when i recharged internet pack & gonna update it,..it showed me that there is no update for your phone now…but my android version is still 2.3.3
    What to do now ? Can you help me ?

      Same thing happened with me. i tried to update it again after 12 hours. it show me that some update available. now it have updated it successfully. 🙂

  2. i have 2 htc wildfire s handsets one is a virgin media, which wont update as yet to 2.3 but one handset i bought from phones4u and has updated fine. im sending one back! or will this recieve an update later?

    1. carrier branded phones typically get the update a bit later than unlocked devices. I’d see if you can contact someone from Virgin to see when you’re update is expected to roll out.

      I bought my phone from Phones 4 U on 3. It’s the only phone I have and use.

      What did you update to? 2.3.3 or 2.3.5? If you have not updated to 2.3.5 yet I urge you to think twice before updating. I am not the only one with this problem. Since posting my original post I have seen hundreds (I am not exaggerating, trust me) of people with the same complain as me.

      If I hear form HTC I will let you all know. I have to say though that I am disappointed that Android themselves have no help on this as actually this an Android issue and not really a HTC issue. Oh well.

  3. Hey there. Can you please tell me how I can go back to the previous 2.3.3 version? I updated the software on my phone and it is ruined. I’m not kidding. It is ruined. I can’t open and read emails, I get force stops all the time, texts are impossible to read, the cute but stupid ring thing is slow and I lose calls and the phone has taken to switching itself off. I don’t want to buy a new phone but I might have to as neither HTC or android have any fixes.

    Please tell me how I can go back to 2.3.3. Thanks.

      You are right.. is there a option to reverse it to the previous version. The new Ring thing is very irritating.. so many times my phone will shut down by itself

  5. I have updated my wildfire S to 2.3.5 (sense still 2.1) few minutes ago and i have the same problem than karenn with emails. The application crashes when i try to read any message.

    1. hey i am also from pakistan today i have also recevied update and i has ruin my phone i reccomend you not to update you will not able to play 3d games like gta3,assasins creed etc it will slow down your phone i was also waiting for update but after updating i want to go to my android 2.3.3 version ! update sucks

  7. I was just wondering whether anyone had been prompted for the 2.3.5 update on three, because i haven’t. I bought the phone from a three store, in England.

    1. Hello Ismaeel. Yes, I have. I am on 3 (UK) and as I say I have had nothing but grief since last Sunday.

      I have emailed HTC about this problem. This is the reply I received from them today:

      Dear Karen Nelson,

      Thank you for contacting HTC regarding your HTC Wildfire S

      I understand that you are currently experiencing difficulties with your email account.

      I apologies for the issues that you are having and i will try and help you with this issue. Can you please confirm what email account you are using and also what type of this email account is, as in POP/IMAP3/Exchange.

      I can see that you have emailed using a hotmail account. If the issue you are having is with this account then more than likely it is setup as an exchange account on your phone. If this is the case you will need to delete the account and re-add it as a POP account. This is because Microsoft are having issues with their exchange for hotmail emails.

      With this information i will better be able to provide support

      I can assure you all that I have installed and deleted and installed again my pop email account. My problems also exist with my Exchange email account.

      I shall let you all know what HTC say when I hear form them again.

  10. It hasn’t hit the Canadian market yet, I’m only getting an update for the HTC Twitter app and that’s it. The Android version is still 2.3.3. I really do not understand why they don’t roll this update out everywhere!!

  11. I updated my phone yesterday and since then whenever I answer any call the phone hangs and shows an error,the call is dropped and the phone is unusable for a couple of minutes.
    Anyone else having this problem? And does anyone have a solution?
    I mailed the HTC guys and they told me to perform a factory reset…but is there any other way??

  12. I received the update about 2 weeks ago and really wish I hadn’t bothered!
    HTC/Android, what the hell have you done to my phone. Everyone else’s comments are only half the problems I’ve had. Everything has changed for the worse. Can’t answer calls, fails to load majority of websites (trust certificate issues), keeps crashing and its touch response has gone haywire! Anyone have any contact details for HTC as I am really not happy!

  14. NOW i have problems i update htc wildfire S android from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 this version so bad and it’s slowly .. ifeel 2.3.3 is faster than 2.3.5 and it’s hang alot i need to get back 2.3.3 Mean downgrade or … install software … !!! Really i need help !!!

  18. after this upgrade (did on 2012 01 16) to 2.3.5 phone is working normally, but Android Marked is ruined, i can’t upgrade & download any app. Download starts ant momentally closes with small text below “download unsuccessful”. Tried to force stop market app, clear all app’s cache, restart phone, any of these metod’s worked for me. Any ideas ? i really don’t want to do factory reset

      1. I solved the problem on my wildfire!

        You have to go to settings, apps, manage, all and looking for Download Manager. Select it and unistall the updates.

        I hope it will be useful to solve your problem!

I downloaded the 2.3.5 version and was told I needed to delete stuff from my phone as I didn’thave enough room to install it….I deleted all I could, but still not enough apparently, so I bought a new SDHC card 8G. It still didn’t work. Called HTC and they advsied a reset. So I did this and yes it worked, 2.3.5 installed fine and it now works ok. Much faster than before. But this is NOT a simple upgrade it appears…

    1. Thats HTC baby..you have to find solutions for yourself, spend precious time on the internet, search, search and search.
      You have to pay for your “karmas”. HTC Wildfire S, is a lousy phone but a good karma breaker!

  21. My friends I tried to update my HTC wildfire s but actually I can’t! By pressing Menu > Settings> About phone> Software updates > Check for update I should have installed the new 2.3.5. Android but it doesn’t displays nothing but a message which says that there aren’t any updates.I have the Android 2.3.3 version

  26. HTC Wildfire S is the most lousy phone available in the market.
    Friends, my only question is that any phone should be easy to use and it should be in sync with the user. If we all search the net and solve the problems of HTC, why did we pay the price for buying it in the first place?

    HTC is taking people for a ride. Do they have any hidden agenda?

  28. after updating my htc wildfire s to 2.3.5,my phone is unstable. the screen gets stuck and sometimes i have to press twice or swipe twice to use my phone. whats the point of giving us updates if we can’t benefit from it?

  29. HI, I AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY EMAILS UPDATING ON MY PHONE, IT SEEMS TO BE A FEW DAYS BEHIND. WHEN I PRESS REFRESH, IT DOESNT UPDATE.

  30. After updating my HTC wildfire s, screen gets struck oftenly and is not faster when compared to previous version. I am facing lots of problem after updates. HTC co should take utmost care to set right the problem as early as possible.

    1. HTC is lilke any corporate gunda company, they are least bothered about the grievances of users especially their Wildfire S ones.
      They have already created a -ve image for themselves with Wildfire S. There are many people like me who is suffering with the set.
      Some points to be noted :
      1. You cannot load in many softwares, it hangs
      2. You cannot talk for a good duration, it hangs
      3. You cannot surf net for a good duration, it hangs

      Note : Please use HTC Wildfire S without any additions, leave the memory card blank, dont load softwares, use it as a simple phone, as this phone is a dumb phone and not a smart phone.

      The only answer I get from HTC is to reload the phone / factory reset everytime I have a problem. Which means I have to back up my data etc.

      Why???????????????????

    Now, when screen is locked and I receive a message, the text message box that would preview the message in the middle of the lock screen (while still locked) is gione.

  34. my wildfire s updated to 2.3.5 today 24th May. running okay here. go to settings/about phone/software updates. your phone may need a reset if its glitching due to app rejection on update.

    И все пак това е моето мнение и хора с противоположни мнения да не се опитват да променят моето лично разбиране за тази версия.

  37. hey friends HTC Wildfire S Internal memory is too low far beyond expectation as comapred to the other phones. i have problem using phone on low internal memory it always displays error saying :”low internal storage error make some space”, and some applications are hard to move from phone to SD card example Facebook and adobe. plz help me in this regard i’ll b more than thnakful

    1. Sorry to say this, nobody can help you in this as you cannot really change the internal memory! All you have to do is either curse HTC or bear it with all its limitations!
      I am sure that if HTC does not call back Wildfire S, it sure will loose its sales as there are numerous unsatisfied users around globe!

  39. 2.3.5 is nothing but headache. After updating my wildfire s, my applications kept crashing.

    I already did uninstall; then, I install the applications… no improvement at all.

    Anyone who knows how to downgrade back to 2.3.3, please share it.

  40. I want to upgrade my HTC software, currently its 2.2.1 want to upgrade like 2.3.5, can’t changed the set, can u pls tell how can I do? If I go to settings n software updates they said your phone is up date but its 2.2.1 instead of 2.3.5
