HTC announces ‘first wave’ of Android 4.0 handset updates

Still wondering which HTC phones will be upgraded to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)? HTC announced this morning that eight of their phone will be included in the first update wave. The first batch of updates are scheduled to be released in early 2012 and will hit most of the high-end single and dual-core phones which HTC released over the past six months.

As expected, the HTC Rezound, HTC Vivid, HTC amaze 4G, HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL, HTC Sensation XE, HTC EVO 3D and the new HTC EVO Design 4G did make the cut.  The only obvious phone missing from the announcement is the T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide which features the same S3 chip found in the HTC Sensation and many of the other dual-core phones in HTC’s lineup.

The fact that HTC’s announcements included the term “first wave” leads up to believe that there will be more announcements down the road.  Phones like the HTC Desire HD, Inspire 4G, G2 and Incredible S/2 will probably be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich as well, but we’ll just have to wait for the second wave announcement.  We’re not sure what HTC has up its sleeve, but we suspect they are already working on HTC Sense 4.0 which could build off the of the new design aesthetics in the latest version of Android.

Are any of you excited about HTC’s Android 4.0 “first wave” update announcement or are you keeping your fingers crossed, hoping your phone makes the cut whenever HTC gets around to announcing the second wave?
