Windows Phone ‘Mango’ update, this week or next

Windows Phone users have been hanging on every bit of rumour and speculation as to when Microsoft would release Windows Phone 7.5 [dubbed Mango]. Rumours pointed to the 15th of September, were unceremoniously quashed by Joe Belfiore himself. Reminding us all of the date Microsoft had mentioned earlier. Less a date, more a season, fall is autumn in the US, and literally starts on the 23rd of September, which gave everyone another date to cling to.

Finally Microsoft, through the Windows Team Blog have confirmed the rollout, with a  timeline of this week or next. Yeah I know this week or next is a bit vague still…

For months, we and dozens of our partner companies have been laying the groundwork for the Windows Phone 7.5 update—and making solid progress. As a result, we now expect to start rolling it out in the next week or two. At that time, we’ll also refresh the Where’s My Phone Update? table to reflect the worldwide rollout status

The post from Microsoft ends with a plea, “Please hang on, we are almost there”, meaning Microsoft are finalising details with carriers all over the world. Microsoft intend “Mango” to hit all current devices in one foul swoop, a momentous effort if they can carry it off. They seem to be well prepared and have the eyes of the world upon them at this point. It will be a major coup if they can pull it off and erase the debacle that was the NoDo update.
