A few of you have asked us if the HTC Puccini (aka the AT&T HTC Jetstream) will feature HTC Scribe with support for digital pen input. Since the beginning, rumors indicated that the Puccini would come with digital pen support and would feature HTC Scribe – just like the HTC Flyer does. Recent screenshots of the HTC Puccini seemed to confirm the rumors as they clearly showed a pen icon right next to the Honeycomb softkeys on the screen. The concert from readers arose after we posted pictures of the HTC Puccini in the wild. The new pictures show the app drawer and HTC World Clock application, but the pen icon is no longer present in the bottom left corner.
So, will the HTC Puccini really come with digital pen support? We can’t say for sure since HTC has still not officially announced the Puccini or given us any details about their first Honeycomb tablet. However, we’re willing to put our credibility on the line and tell you that is will feature support for the digital pen and HTC Scribe. Let me explain. The HTC Flyer creates a screenshot in order for users to write on the screen. When users tap the screen with the pen on the Flyer, a dedicated capacitive button lights up which gives users access to different pen settings. We believe that the screenshots we have seen of the HTC Puccini were captured in the same manner (tapping the screen with the digital pen). Rather than including a pen activated button outside the screen (similar to what’s on the HTC Flyer), HTC has simply integrated the button right next to the Honeycomb softkeys which only appears when the digital pen is in use.
Mystery solved? We think so!
There is an application for notes with the icon of a pen and paper…. I think that gives a way that there will be a pen input!
