There was a lot of user feedback when HTC started to lock down the bootloaders in their Android devices, making it that much harder for people to apply the customisations that they have become used to. Whether it be to take advantage of custom ROMs or many of the applications out there that require root access, HTC has released a tool to unlock the HTC Sensation 4G. While it does not seem to provide an S-Off or turn the security on the phone completely, it’s a start. HTC in a sense of open source sharing, implemented this program to keep users of their Android devices happy and have continued to update their progress on Facebook. SO news filtering out today says that the tools for unlocking the HTC Sensation 4G are available but a word of caution:
Before you jump into unlocking your Sensation, we should mention that the process isn’t for the novice Android user. It requires ADB knowledge, which isn’t exactly for the faint of heart.
Basically you will need some knowledge of the tools Android developers create apps with, the SDK, to apply the bootloader unlock. While this is a welcome concession from HTC, it’s not been made easy. It is though on the wish list of many, so bravo!
