The TG01 was announced/ released at mobile world congress way back in 2009, running Windows Mobile 6.1, a Qualcomm 1 GHz processor, and a resistive TFT touch screen. It was a step forward for its day, a powerhouse of a device, and one of the phones, like the HTC HD2, that appears to be standing the test of time. It seems the early Snapdragon hardware from Qualcomm is incredibly versatile, and lends itself to running all manner of operating systems including Android. For a device that is well over two years old to be running Windows Phone, not only pays homage to the original hardware, and makes me wonder when we reached the hardware plateau, but to the developer who ported the OS to the device. The device is for sale, or may be sold at the moment, and the owner isn’t the developer that ported an early release of Windows Phone to the device. What is interesting is that it seems to be a surprise to the guys at XDA, and if not a fake, will go for a great price.
While Windows Phone may be a burgeoning OS, it is providing a lot of entertainment, and bringing old devices a new lease of life. Did we reach a hardware plateau though? Was the combination of hardware in the TG01, HD2 the point where overkill started to happen with devices? So how does this compare to a dual core device? Windows Phone on the Toshiba looks as fluid as always, although the camera API, camera is not working on this build yet, wait till it gets in the hands of forum members at XDA.
