The visual voicemail feature in the Mango update for Windows Phone is going to be one of those features that we might be lucky to see dependent on our carriers turning the feature on, here in Australia. I can tentatively say from remarks in a local forum that Telstra will support this feature, but for now Optus doesn’t. Visual Voice Mail basically gives you a way to directly access your Voice Mail as a list, in a pivot menu on the phone hub. Looks like it’s working in other parts of the world though as evidenced in the video below.
As it turns out, when you have voicemail messages waiting and you tap your “phone” live tile, you’ll see a “Voicemail” pivot along the same axis as the call history. In the Voicemail section you’ll see the names of callers along with the day and time that they had left a message along with a play button right next to their names. Listening to each message is obvious – just press the play button.
It looks pretty handy, and I’d like to see local carriers enable this feature.
