Most of us have become used to having Task Managers, if using Windows Mobile or Task Killers on Android, to manage the multi tasking nature of the OS’s. It wasn’t abnormal to run an application, to turn off applications you didn’t need running. The basic premise being to free up , optimise available memory. In Windows Phone, we haven’t been availed of that luxury. Many would say there is no multitasking in Windows Phone, but a lot of the native apps, and network connectivity, will run in the background, even though you don’t notice. WPH TaskViewer, is an app that will let you see just how the resources on your windows phone device are handling what’s going on. It doesn’t let you cancel them at this point, it gives you an overview of what is running, and how much memory your device is using. Select an app and you will get info pertaining to it. If you have a problematic, buggy app, that keeps crashing, you can even use the Volume Up/Volume Down button, to check the apps memory consumption while it is running.
You will need a developer unlocked device to try this out, and if you have a Samsung phone there is a link to an earlier build of the app that you can try in the original post.
Here’s the complete features list:
- Displays memory load and total physical memory
- Displays device uptime
- Lists all running processes
- Displays a message over the current application with memory load information upon pressing VolUp+VolDown (dehydration hack must be enabled)
One thing, I just don’t have the dehydration hack enabled, and the V UP+ V DOWN function still works for me.
