HTC Flyer Digital Pen May Cost Big Bucks!

The HTC Flyer, the 7 inch tablet from HTC has finally gone up for pre order down under, and the expected release date of May 16 has been confirmed by online retailers. It comes with 32 Gb on board memory, upgradeable via Micro SD to 64 Gb. The Flyer is not just a tablet, it is a fully functional 3G enabled touch screen device, with voice capabilities, [big phone] a 1.5 Ghz processor and 1 Gb of Ram. It sports the now incredibly recognisable aluminium unibody design, consistent with a lot of HTC’s smaller gadgets, and an interesting active stylus. which people are assuming is included with the tablet. Now that has become debatable, with reports coming out that US retailer Best Buy has the Stylus Unit listed for sale at $79.99, or the UK equivalent. What’s interesting is that the OEM specification does not include the stylus, So is it an added extra that you’ll have to fork out more cash for?

The Flyer has a unique, customised Android interface, designed specifically for interaction with the active stylus, check the video of it in action below. All the pre release video shows Android 2.3, but it’s expected to get an update to Honeycomb, which is specifically tailored for Tablet Devices.

  1. The pen is only sold separately at best buy. If you buy it somewhere else it will be included.

This has been officially clarified by HTC according to engadget.

  2. We’ve spoke to HTC ourselves on this issue. Only problem is that Best Buy has an exclusive with the Wi-Fi HTC Flyer in the U.S. market. 3G/4G versions of the HTC Flyer will include the digital pen, but anyone looking to purchase the Wi-Fi Flyer in the U.S. will need to shell out the extra cash if they want pen functionality.
