Here at HTC Source, we’re never doubted that the T-Mobile G2 would receive an update to Gingerbread. Due to the G2’s nearly stock Android build, many were hoping that it would get updated a lot sooner than other HTC devices, but that simply didn’t turn out to be true. We’ve known for some time that the HTC Desire family of phones is expected to receive Gingerbread within the next 4-10 week and now few finally have confirmation that the G2 will get a taste of Gingerbread in Q2 as well. An HTC rep revealed this new information to the guys over at Computer World, but there were pretty vague about the details. While we know that the next step update for the G2 will be Gingerbread flavored, we don’t know if it’ll be Android 2.3 or the latest Android 2.4 build that’s been making the rounds lately.
If you haven’t rooted your phone already and moved on to a custom ROM, sit tight for a few more weeks. Q2 officially end the last week of June, but we have a feeling that T-Mobile and HTC will be delivering the baked goods much sooner than that.
