April 1st is always a tough day to get any real news out the door, but we always enjoy a great April Fools article which includes HTC. The first one we’ve been able to spot is a story which claims that Nokia and Microsoft have plans to purchase HTC. After the acquisition, Nokia and Microsoft would kill off HTC’s line of Android devices and focus all manufacturing capacity to push out more Windows Phone 7 handsets.
A story like this would certainly cause a huge uproar in the smartphone sector and would dramatically turn the tired on Android’s current dominance in market share. Fortunately, the story is too farfetched to actually be true. HTC’s recent growth has transformed the company into one of the most dominant players in the smartphone sector. While HTC’s total revenue for 2010 was only one fourth of Nokia’s, HTC’s profit margins pushed the company’s net income to roughly 55% of what Nokia reported for last year.
HTC’s not going anywhere. We actually wouldn’t be surprised if HTC made a few acquisitions of their own in 2011.
