New app usage report shows HTC as top Windows Phone 7 manufacturer

A new report released by mtiks indicates that HTC’s market dominance from the old Windows Mobile days has continued with the introduction of Windows Phone 7.  The mtiks report tracked mobile apps usage in February on Windows Phone 7 devices and displays the numbers by location and individual handsets.  At the top of the list is the HTC HD 7 which holds 35% of the overall WP7 market segment.  Adding up HTC’s various Windows Phone 7 devices, HTC’s market share caps out at 56% while Samsung takes second place with 32% and LG’s 12% puts them at the bottom of the list.

HTC’s dominance in the WP7 arena can be attributed to the number of handset launched by HTC, but we also would like to point out that HTC an amazing track record with their Microsoft products which may be enticing more consumers to stick with a brand they can trust.

While it’s nice to have an early lead in the Windows Phone 7segment, HTC is hopefully hard at work on their second generation of handsets.  With Nokia’s entry in the Windows Phone 7 world later this year, things could turn around quite quickly.  But we’re not too worried.  HTC could use some solid competition to force them to push the boundaries a bit more.
