Despite delays, the HTC Thunderbolt gets an early unboxing and review

There are a lot of people who really enjoy unboxing videos and then there are a quite a few people who simply can’t stand them.  If you find yourself among the second group, we suggest you close your eyes for a bit or simply skip to the second video.  Verizon and HTC have yet to send us a review unit for the HTC Thunderbolt, but it looks like the guys over at Wirefly have been treated to a pre-production unit.  The unboxing video below gives us a good look at the HTC Thunderbolt’s packaging and the handsets exterior.  We’d hoping that the HTC Thunderbolt won’t be delayed for too long, but since it’s their first LTE 4G handset, we’re pretty sure Verizon wants the Thunderbolt to operate flawlessly right out of the box.

Wirefly has also posted a second video which gives a more in-depth look at the HTC Thunderbolt.  For those familiar with HTC Sense 2.0, the UI of the HTC Thunderbolt is pretty similar to the HTC Desire HD and the Inspire 4G.  Fortunately they put the HTC Thunderbolt through a few benchmarks where it posted a score of 1831 in Quadrant and scores of 1113 (productivity) and 1525 (games) with SmartBench.  The HTC Thunderbolt’s benchmark numbers are in line with what we’ve come to expect from handsets powered by Qualcomm’s second generation of 1GHz Snapdragon processors.  But if those performance numbers aren’t quite as high as you were hoping, you might want to wait a few more months until the HTC Pyramid is available.
