HTC may have plans to unveil their new Android phones at Mobile World Congress, but that doesn’t mean we have to sit around and twiddle our thumbs for the next few weeks. Renderings of three new Android devices from HTC have hit the web today which may give us some clues as to what HTC has up their sleeve.
On the higher end of the scale, it looks like HTC may be planning a refresh of last year’s HTC Desire. While the curves of the new handset match up pretty nicely with the original HTC Desire, the hardware itself has received a very minimalistic overhaul. The rendered image has done away with the Desire’s hardware buttons and optical joystick in favor of capacitive buttons located under the screen. Above the screen, the new device features an elongated earpiece with a slight curve with a front-facing-camera located to its right.
The second rendered image features a new HTC handset which looks quite familiar. Some sites are likening the handset to a miniature Nexus One, but it’s obvious that they have forgotten about last year’s HTC Wildfire. From the looks of it, HTC may be doing away with the optical joystick and replacing it with a standard trackball. The image also features a much larger earpiece and what may turn out to be a front-facing camera.
If you thought that HTC Wildfire was the low end of HTC’s lineup, think again. The third and final image we have depicts a small Android handset that could have a screen that may measures 3 inches or less. HTC has equipped the phone with its standard capacitive buttons under the screen, optical joystick, and physical call and end buttons. Like the other two phone, this last device prominently features a front-facing-camera above the screen.
Names and specs for all three devices are still unknown, but if the images do turn out to be real we’re pretty sure we’ll be hearing a lot more about them over the next three weeks. If HTC hopes to live up to their projections for 2011, these three device are probably just a small portion of what HTC will unveil at MWC this year.
