Rumor: HTC Flyer Android tablet could launch as early as March with Android 2.3

Rumors about Android powered tablets have been circling for quite some time, but things appear to be heating up with some new reports out of Taiwan.  A recent report from DigiTimes states that HTC has plans to launch three Android tablets in the first half of 2011.  According to the report, the HTC will release the HTC Flyer in the U.S. market in March in order to stifle sales of the RIM Playbook and Motorola XOOM.  While a March release for an HTC tablet may sound appealing, the source indicates that it will launch with Android 2.3 but will upgradable to Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) at a later date.

We’re not entirely convinced that HTC’s tablet launch strategy will play out exactly how DigiTimes is reporting.  The main points that you should take away from the report is that HTC is working on three different tablets which should launch during the first half of 2011.  DigiTimes is notorious for posting reports which never seem to pan out, but we still have enough faith in them to believe that the HTC Scribe, Flyer and a third Android tablet will make it to market during the first half of 2011.

Thanks Sam for the tip!
