Microsoft has yet to release their first update to WP7, but that hasn’t stopped them from taking out their calendar and marking down then the second software update will be available. If you have your calendar handy, you might want to take out a red market and circle February 14-17. If those dates sound familiar, it’s because they coincide with next year’s Mobile World Congress. Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer is on tap to deliver a keynote speed during MWC, so it only seems natural that he would want something new to show off to the world. While details on what will be included in the update are a bit sparse, rumor has it that users will be getting some additional customization options and developers will be given a handful of new API’s to work with.
Windows Phone 7 may not be the most impressive OS in the smartphone arena right now, but it’s nice to see Microsoft working feverishly to catch up with its rivals. Who knows, since most Android complaints circle around the whole fragmentation issue, Microsoft may be able to slowly wean Android users to their new platform with their universal update strategy.
