T-Mobile speaks up about the rumored Wi-Fi calling and tether enabling G2 OTA update

Yesterday we reported that an OTA update for the G2 was makings it way out to the public which enabled Wi-Fi- calling and tethering for the new T-Mobile G2.  Like many of you, we were pretty surprised that an update like this was being rolled out so soon, considering that T-Mobile made it pretty clear that those new features would be launching with the new myTouch.  In an effort to clarify the whole situation, T-Mobile’s PR team has issues a short statement:

“Wi-Fi Calling and tethering Wi-Fi sharing are not currently supported on the T-Mobile G2. T-Mobile knows these features are important to consumers and we’re working to deliver them to G2 users in the future. We have nothing further to announce at this time.”

It’s hard to determine whether yesterday’s reports were true or not, but T-Mobile’s statement clearly indicates that they are planning on rollout our both Wi-Fi calling and tethering to the G2.  For now, all we can do if wait patiently until the real OTA rollout begins.
