T-Mobile announces the G2 as their first HSDPA+ phone

Any G1 owners looking to trade up so something a little more sophisticated?  T-Mobile has just announced that their first ever HSDPA+ handset will be the T-Mobile G2.  For now, all we have is the name, but we’re about 97.3% sure that the phone in question is the HTC Vision.  T-Mobile is touring their HSPDA+ network as having 4G like speeds.  Currently, our original G1 can manage about download speeds of 2.4 MBps on the HSDPA+ network, but the G2 should easily be able to manage speeds 2 to 3 times faster.  To put that into perspective, the G2 will be able to download data faster than the HTC EVO on Sprint’s 4G network.

If you’re interested in getting the latest news from T-Mobile about the upcoming G2, head on over to the devices page and sign up for T-Mobile’s email reminders.  Like the original G1, T-Mobile will be offering the G2 to current T-Mobile customers first.  There are hints that there will be a pre-sale for the G2 within the next few weeks.
