HTC acquires Abaxia to strengther software design

It’s no secret that HTC is leading the way on both Windows Mobile and Android with their customized HTC Sense user interface.  But HTC seems poised to take things a step further with their newly announced acquisition of Abaxia.  If you’re scratching your head, trying to figure out who Abaxia is and what they do, you’re not alone, but that does not mean that you have not enjoyed their work over the years. Abaxia is the leading software developer in charge of handset customization across the globe.  If you have ever picked up a T-Mobile handset of a phone from O2 and noticed how the carrier customized the UI a little and added in a few of their own applications, it’s a fair guess to think that Abaxia was the company commissioned to do the work.

“HTC is committed to creating the best possible mobile experience for our customers today, tomorrow and into the future,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “The addition of Abaxia deepen and broaden our software development capabilities so that we can innovate at an even faster pace.”

We’re not exactly sure why HTC would be interested in making custom UI’s for carriers on handsets other than their own, but we do know that HTC is very committed to giving HTC customers the best possible user experience on their phones.  HTC will most likely use the expertise from the Abaxia team to enhance HTC Sense but I would be really surprised if they user their Sense UI elements on handsets other than their own.
