Unlocked HTC Desire launch delayed until April 13th

If you’re living in the UK, you can most likely walk over to your closest T-Mobile store and pick to the HTC Desire with no issues.  HTC is expected to launch it on other carriers within a couple weeks as well.  But what if you simply want an unlocked phone?  Retailers were expecting to get their shipments from HTC this week, but word on the street is that delivery has been delayed.  Clove is reporting that HTC has postponed delivery of the unlocked HTC Desire to April 13th.  Apparently, the delay affects all retails that plan on socking the HTC Desire.  The HTC Legend is already in stock at Clove and other online retailers.  We’re not sure if HTC is simply having distribution issues or is prioritizing where the handsets go.   At the moment, all we know is that we have to wait at least one more week before we can purchase an unlocked HTC Desire.  Let the waiting continue….

  1. Though you can buy an unlocked HTC Desire at Carphone Warehouse For £399.99 (you do have to buy it on Orange PAYG, and shell out an extra £10 for the SIM card – but the phone is fully unlocked and unbranded… I’m using mine with my existing O2 SIM card….)

  2. That’s great if you live in the UK but many of the SIM free handsets are preordered from overseas. Also doesnt solve the problem for Clove, Handtec, etc who are losing orders by the minute

  3. I ordered one on Wednesday from T-Mobile, called them today as I hadn’t received an order confirmation. I was given an apology and told that there was a delivery due in on Friday. They could not however guarantee if I would get one of these or from other delivery next week.
An email would have been nice from T-Mobile just to let me know there was a delay!
There have been rumours of software issues with the phone just prior to launch. I suspect though HTC are struggling with demand and prioritising delivery to their biggest customers, the mobile operators.
This does not help the individuals that have been expectedly waiting for their Desires, pre-ordered with e-sellers.
If the delay is due to high demand this will only benefit support, accessories etc etc for the phone when we do finely get our greasy mit’s on one.
If its a software issue I would rather wait and get a fully functioning phone with out bugs.
    Either way still frustrating!!
