HTC Team reveals Android 2.1 Hero update for March

If you’re an HTC Hero owner waiting for Android 2.x, you’re probably tired of waiting around for an update. HTC mentioned back in October that they were working on a Hero update, but we’re all still waiting for something to materialize. But things are looking up, at least we hope. According to HTC’s Benelux Team, Android 2.1 with HTC Sense will be available to the HTC Hero in March.

The Hero’s Android 2.1 ROM update will include a few improvements to Sense, including a new Friend Stream widget which till help you keep track of your friends on Facebook or Twitter (similar to Motorola’s MotoBLUR). Though it wasn’t mentioned anywhere, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the home screen pinch-to-zoom feature in Sense included in this update.

    1. Verizon has been pretty quiet lately about any updates for the Eris. Since it was just released, I’m sure they have plans on getting the latest version of Android on it, but they are the ones who need to request the build from HTC.

    1. That’s a little harsh, considering HTC has been the best at sending out updates to their Android phones. Samsung Galaxy owners are still sitting on Android 1.5 as well and that phone was launched before the Hero.

  1. From the way I understand it, CDMA support is native in Android 1.6 and up. At least, that’s what I’ve heard. I’m hoping that’ll mean devs won’t have much issue getting this ported to Sprint’s Hero when it launches.

  2. Hope they get this before apple gets htc banned from the US…. it would suck if that happened….

  3. By the time HTC, Sprint, Google or whoever finally get this done iPhone will be available off of AT&T. Goodbye, POS HTC and android. Nice try, you fail.

    1. I doubt that At&t will let the exclusive iPhone deal slip away any time soon. Even if it does, there are peopel out there who simply don’t want an iPhone. A lot of people are satisfied with simply using their little iPod for music. The beauty of Android and HTC is that there is a different phone for every style. Options are always better than conformity.

  4. Jeff….what do you mean, good bye…android..nice try, you fail???? Uuhhhhh lets see, they just really started, no signs of them failing, only getting better……..and nice try you fail??? What does that mean, they haven’t failed, they just started trying, not only are your comments premature, there is no logic.
Androids choices will grab mainstream, iphones quality will keep a good market share but the business model of android will more than likely follow that of PC’s when IBM tried to keep a closed market.
And we all know how that went. PC’s won out big time. Choices, choices, choices.

  5. Aaaaaandd BZZZZT. I’m sorry… looks like you fail. No 2.1 update in March.

Better luck next time with your sources.

You should probably vet them better next time.

    1. The news story was from over a month ago. We simply report what we hear. If HTC chooses to change the release date, that does not indicate that our sources were wrong at the time. Not sure why we “FAIL” since this same story was picked up by all the tech blogs on the net. I guess we all FAIL 😉

  6. well i just spoke with a rep from HTC and she told me that 2.1 is definitly coming to all android devices, i asked her why it is taking so long, she said its because they have to design the 2.1 update specificly for every carrier in the world.

Depending on what their customer ( carrier ) wants.

I asked why some phones got the 1.6 update and some phones are still on 1.5,
she said the 1.6 is only for a few carrier’s like verizon and t-mobile….apperantly they had some really bad data issues.

She said that HTC is very aware that the HTC Android community has been waiting a long time and is growing very impatient, she actually apologized to me and said to tell my friends that HTC apologizes for asking for our patience but that 2.1 will be here soon for everyone.

    hope that helps you guys…=)

  7. goodmorning! it’s already APRIL! it starts to seem to me thet buying HTC Hero was one of few FAILS I have done in my life.

  8. I’ve been very disappointed with HTC. There is the whole dust under the screen problem, they keep delaying the update to the latest version of Android, their bad response of making you pay the shipping on a widespread defect that is a design flaw. I don’t think I’ll be buying anything HTC again anytime soon.

  9. It is now APRIL 25,2010 where is my freaking update cause I dont see it any where.
    Where did it go?
    Did I loose it?
    Did somebody steal it?
    It not here anywhere.
Oh yeah it not here because it was never Released.

  10. Yes yes. HTC – We will finally expect update to 2.1 for Hero as promised 1st of march 2014. My god this is taking time. Is it the moon landing we are expecting or a mobile phone update??????????????????????????????

  11. June is starting in two days. 4 more years to go. By the time I finish my contract with my network, will be switching phone for 2.1 Hero is a great phone but no updates 🙁

  12. If I want to lobby to see Infrared on these phones (works great as a TV Remote with an application and all 1 Million Realtors in the USA open their GE Lockboxes via Infrared on their cells… who do I lobby for it? Blue tooth obviously has it’s amazing place but it does not replace Infrared on some important things and lockboxes definitely can’t go bluetooth as they are sealed and when the battery is up.. so is the box.,,, which costs $100 each.

  13. Lmao, you’re all fucking stupid. The 2.1 update already came out months ago. My CDMA Hero runs 2.1 with Sense and has the pinch to zoom home screen feature. Keep up, niggers. 😀

  14. Dude grow up, we are not all on sprint – we are not even in the US!

The HERO was released world wide, that is why we are bitching.
The rest of us (90% of Hero users worldwide) is still waiting.

Leave us be and enjoy your update / cooked ROM.

  15. Cmon, i want my update….
