Press event for Google’s Nexus One scheduled for January 5th

In my last post, I predicted that we might hear something from HTC or Google by the end of the week regarding the Nexus One.  I guess I was off by a few days.  I opened up my email a few minutes ago to find the image above.  Google has just sent out invitations to members of the press for an "Android press gathering" which is scheduled for one week from today.  The January 5th press event is scheduled to start at 10 am Pacific.  The invitation may not say anything about the Nexus One, but the schedule of events clearly indicates that the press will have at least 30 minutes of questions, followed by an hour and a half of demonstration time.

It’s a bit odd that Google has chosen to launch the Nexus One the day before CES.  It would make sense to have a proper launch of their latest and greatest android phone when all the press from around the globe is gathered at one location.  However, launching before CES allows Google to steal the spotlight away from the show before it begins. They won’t have any competition or other major announcements to deal with.

Is it just me, or is the excitement growing?  I’m not planning on purchasing a Nexus One.  I’m patiently holding off for the HTC Bravo, but that could all change once I get some hands-on time with Google’s new Android beast.
