At the moment, Android 2.0 seems to be a bit of a sore topic for many. Even before Android 1.6 was released, we started hearing about the 2.0 release, but there’s been a lot of confusion about the development process behind it. At the moment Google appears to be playing favorites, giving Motorola exclusive access to the updates OS which they are planning on launching next week with the Motorola Droid. But some recent new information indicates that HTC is in the Android 2.0 circle of trust as well. GearLog is reporting that HTC has had their hands on the new Android 2.0 update for some time already and have in place already to release it on upcoming Android phones. HTC has not indicated which new handsets will be getting Android 2.0 treatments, but this could be good news for current Hero owners who have been asking for 1.6 for the past month. Since HTC’s Sense is placed on top of their own custom build of Android, it might make sense for them to simply bypass an Android 1.6 ROM upgrade and go straight to 2.0.
How many of you would be willing to wait another month or two to get your Hero updated to 2.0 instead of getting a temporary 1.6 fix?
