Verizon is finally fulfilling its promise that it made over six months ago that they would unlock the GPS functionality on their Windows Mobile powered phones so that users could use third party GPS applications. A new firmware update for the HTC Touch Pro will allow you to use Google Maps or any other GPS application on your phone as you please. Last December, Verizon announced that they wanted to give their Windows Mobile users more GPS functionality, but it has taken them nearly six months to unlock the first Windwos Mobile phone.
The new firmware version 1.08 will also allow HTC Touch Pro users to access Verizon’s visual voicemail service. The new software works similarly to the iPhone’s, allowing you to see details of various voicemails without calling in to listen to them. Verizon will be charging $3 a month for the service, but it is definitely worth the cash if you’re constantly flooded with phone calls. You can wait a few more days to get the update from Verizon or you can get it directly from phonenews.com
