We have to admit, we’ve been spending a lot of time covering news on the G1 and have seemingly neglected the rest of the HTC lineup. I guess it’s time to get back to business as usual. I’m sure over the next few week we’ll be hearing more and more about the SONY Xperia X1 which is made by our good friends at HTC. A lot of people have been comparing the Xperia X1 to the Touch PRO since they are both running on WM 6.1, feature Opera 9.5, and have a full slide out QWERTY keyboard. Although they sound like they should be identical twins, there’s a clear cut difference between these two devices. We’ll be looking at physical differences for now.

For those who would be buying any of these phones, the full QWERTY keyboard is most likely the main draw. There are some nice virtual keyboards out there (PocketCM Keyboard simply knocks the socks off of everyone), but nothing can replace the speed and accuracy of a full QWERTY. The Touch PRO features a full five row layout with dedicated number keys. The Xperia X1 only features four rows of keys, but does offer spacing between them which gives you a better feel for where your fingers are.
Placing the two phones right next to each other reveals what most of us knew already. The Xperia X1 is slightly shorter than the Touch PRO, but due to the design of the phone itself, it feels a lot smaller in your hand.
When stacked we can see that the X1 is a fraction thinner than the Touch PRO as well. You’ll also note that the reflective chrome finish gives the device a slightly more appealing look. The Touch PRO seems to look more like a simply block of plastic than a high end communication device. The Xperia X1 also features a 3.5mm headphone, a first for HTC devices.
Last up is the screen. Both the HTC Touch PRO and the SONY Xperia X1 have very crisp and bright displays, but as we can see from the displayed webpage, the WVGA display of the X1 allows it to display more of the page at once.
