HTC Opal: original HTC Touch replacement?

HTC Opal to replace HTC TouchLast year, HTC stormed onto the global market with their first HTC branded HTC Touch. The Touch featured a neat little Tabbed Home screen app and HTC’s TouchFLO 3D Cube. Since then HTC has moved on, giving us the Diamond and a new and improved Touch FLO 3D interface. But HTC has not given up completely on the Touch.

The HTC Opal looks like it will be replacing the dated HTC Touch with a slightly new look, Windows Mobile 6.1, and TouchFLO 3D. The Opal will keep all the same hardware as the original Touch, which includes the same OMAP 850 processor, WiFi, MicroSD slot, Bluetooth 2.0, 2 megapixel camera, quad-band GSM / EDGE, and a 2.8-inch 240 x 320 pixel screen.

There’s still no word on when the HTC Opal will be launched or how much it will cost. At the moment, the original HTC Touch is still selling for around $399, so I can’t imagine the Opal selling for much more since the internal hardware seems to be the same.
