I know, this is an HTC blog. So why are we talking about the iPhone? Well, Apple seems to have come a long way in a year since the original release of the iPhone. It lacked 3G, you could not install anything without voiding your warranty, no enterprise usability since it lacked push e-mail, the price was a bit high, and then there was the fact that it was made by Apple. So what’s changed?
Apple just announced their new 3G iPhone. It now features GPS. It will have an app store which you can use over the air, has push e-mail and calendar, 3G connection, oh and it got a bit thicker. But the best new thing about the iPhone is that the 8GB version will be flying off shelves on July 11th for only $199! Can that be right? $ 199? That’s half the price of the current iPhone!
I’ve actually talked to 3 friends already today who are about to full their hair out in excitement over all this! I’m not writing all this to tell you that’s I’m going to run out and buy the new 3G iPhone. I’ve been a die hard Windows Mobile fan for years, but my friends who are planning on picking this thing up are also WM users (but it’s not like they blog about it). I’m writing this to simply say: How much is the HTC Diamond really worth? Yes, it features a very open OS which you can tweak till your fingers bleed, it is a lot smaller than the iPhone and can actually fit in your pocket. But is it really worth more than $700 when the 3G iPhone is going for $199 with 8GB of storage compared to the Diamond’s 4GB?
Any thoughts?
