Exclusive: HTC U12 to feature matte white metal and glass design

UPDATE: new information has been shared with us from another source regarding the phone’s matte-white color option. We are no longer confident that the previous information that was shared with us was accurate.

We’ve learned from a trusted source that the upcoming HTC U12 will share some design similarities with the HTC U11 and HTC U11+, but it will likely have a few unique characteristics which will evolve HTC’s Liquid Surface design language. Like last year’s HTC U11, the design of the HTC U12 will feature a metal frame which will be sandwiched between curved glass on the front and back of the phone. Like the HTC U11+, the fingerprint sensor will be located on the back of the phone with the dual-sensor camera.

The exact design of the phone is still under wraps, but our source has shared that HTC is cooking up a new matte white finish which would be a unique approach to a phone wrapped in glass.

Combined with the leak regarding the HTC U12’s specifications from a few days ago, the phone looks to be shaping up quite an impressive device which should be able to go head-to-head with the Samsung Galaxy S9.

  1. I have a 6/128Gb dual SIM U11 in Solar Red which I really enjoy.
I am based in the UK & really enjoy the dual SIM as signal reception outside the main centres is patchy at best.
I hope HTC UK actually import the dual SIM version as standard from day one this year! I bought mine in Singapore because initially HTC UK didn’t stock either the dual SIM or colour variant.
With the cellphone camera improving in leaps & bounds, and being an important feature, I wonder when a manufacturer will produce a built-in solution to add quick fit accessory lenses (screw or bayonet?) so they are more secure than the current clip on type that are virtually impossible to mount if you have your pride & joy in a case to protect it from accidental damage. I realise that dual lenses will make this more difficult but makes a solution even more important. If a manufacturer offered these lens kits as a a tested OEM genuine accessory it would certainly enhance the desirability of the device.
