Originally unveiled at Mobile World Congress back in February, the HTC Desire 530 is now making its way to Verizon and T-Mobile customers in the US. HTC will be selling the low-end Android smartphone sometime in the second half of July for $179.99, but T-Mobiel has announced that it will offer the Desire 530 starting on July 13 for a mere $159.99. For that price, customers will be able to get a 5-inch 720p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage (expandable with a 2TB microSD card slot), 5-megapixel selfie cam, 8-megapixel main camera and a 2,200 mAh battery.

The phone’s specs will definitely not impress those who have owned smartphones in the past, but HTC is hoping that the Desire 530’s unique micro-splash polycarbonate design will catch a few eyes – especially young customers looking to buy their first smartphone. The HTC Desire 530 is also equipped with front-facing stereo BoomSound speakers which are enhanced with a dedicated amplifier. It may not be the most capable smartphone in the $160 to $180 range, but it’ll look and sound a lot better than what the competition has to offer.
