More details hint at a double Nexus launch by HTC

As the hype is still in the air over the HTC 10, HTC finds its way into the spotlight for a couple of different upcoming phones. The rumors of HTC producing not one, but two phones for Google’s Nexus lineup, the only program we think they’d be hungry to produce for.

A couple of sources threw some pieces of the puzzle onto the table today. One piece of evidence spawning from another clue like a murder mystery. The two primary detectives on the case are @evleaks and Android Police. After Evan leaked the internal codenames or model numbers for HTC’s two upcoming devices as the M1 and S1 Android Police quickly picked up on the lead and ran it through the database which determined the M1 could be the Marlin and S1 could be the Sailfish.

According to the info we read at Droid-Life, Google likes to use underwater creatures for project codenames which would make a lot of sense if these two companies were working together on the latest mystery project.

As we’ve seen in recent history, Google likes to have two variations of Nexus products on the market for consumers to choose from. Usually one will have slightly less impressive specs than the second, top notch device. It would be great news for HTC if they won both contracts to produce a high and middle grade Nexus device running the upcoming release of the Android operating system.

The HTC 10 is still impressing the media with its arrival on the market and news of HTC producing the next two Nexus devices should bring lots of prosperity to HTC’s mobile side of operations.

We’ve seen fans commenting about things HTC could do to build a solid Nexus device and it looks like the recommendations are to move the fingerprint reader to the back of the phone just like the current lineup. Also HTC will have to ditch the capacity buttons it is using with the HTC 10, because Google moved away from those awhile back and most likely won’t want to go back down that road. HTC would have a hard time making a case to bring back this button style when the larger company turned it’s back on it once and for all.

We’d personally like to see BoomSound speaker incorporated into a Nexus device, but HTC’s last two devices, the A9 and now the 10 have shown a trend that the company has had to get rid of that awesome item to get a larger screen that falls closer to the top and bottom of the phone.

It seems like there’s enough evidence to build a case stating that HTC is working on two phones for Google, but the news doesn’t clarify that HTC is making two different phones for the market. Both devices could be fighting for the same position in the lineup, but we really hope they are going to be treated as separate devices for two great projects.
