HTC One M8 Android Marshmallow update rolling out in the US

Android Marshmallow has arrived! While you’d expect the HTC One M9 to be the first device in HTC’s lineup to be blessed with Android Marshmallow, last year’s HTC One M8‘s software team somehow managed to finish things up and push out the update to the unlocked and developer versions of the phone in the US.

The 6.12.1540.4 software build with Android 6.0 weighs in at 1.03GB, making it one of the largest Android updates we’ve ever seen from HTC. The update notification on the phone indicates that the download and install process takes approximately 40 minutes and reminds users that they should have at least a 50% battery charge before beginning starting the process.

Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) comes with quite few under the hood tweaks from Google, including Now on Tap, a new battery-saving doze feature and adaptive storage which allows you to increase the system storage of the phone with a microSD card. HTC Sense has also been updated

According to @LlabTooFeR, the HTC One M8 owners in Europe will start receiving the Android Marshmallow update by the middle of December. We still don’t have a hard date for when the HTC One M9 will be getting the update, but HTC has promised that it will start the rollout before the end of 2015.

HTC One M8 now available for $230
