QHD display protected by 2.5D Gorilla Glass 4 rumored for upcoming HTC Aero

With roughly four months before the HTC Aero is expected to hit store shelves, HTC’s fall flagship smartphone is slowly coming into focus. Following last week’s news that the HTC Aero would be equipped with “groundbreaking” camera technology, we’re now learning that the phone will also feature a Quad HD (2,560 x 1,440 pixels) display with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 4 protection. While Gorilla Glass 4 has been featured on the HTC One M9 and other HTC devices already, HTC has only used 2.5D glass on select handsets in the past. The display technology and size is still a mystery, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the phone makes its debut with an LCD panel what ranges from 5.2 to 5.5 inches.

For those who don’t know, 2.5D glass features rounded edges, giving the illusion that the display has a slight curve to it when viewed from an angle or when swiping over its edge with your finger. While the 2.5D glass finishing technique simply provides a cosmetic enhancement to the display of a smartphone, it’s an added touch which improves the overall fit and finish of the device.

Based on what we know about the HTC Aero, do you think its overall design will have more in common with that of the HTC One ME or the HTC One E9 than the HTC One M9.

  1. Llabtoofer has said it won’t be QHD, but interesting thing with 2.5D glass is whether it will support a dot view case.

    1. There’s no technical difference between 2.5D glass and the standard 2D glass finish that’s on the HTC One M8 and One M9. so there’s no reason why a DotView case wouldn’t work.

      1. Ah I see, I thought the slight curve would have an effect on how it would sit on the screen at all edges. Thanks for replying and clearing that up Nick!

  2. Its must be a bomb there is no space for flop. On another hand we reached situation when most people happy with devices owned by now.
I am happy with HTC and have no incentive to change for newer even if my contract is due.
Apps are updated and works better than years ago.
Samsung also doesnt sell as expected.

  3. I always felt that the glass on my old ONE-S was the best I’ve EVER seen. it is dark and deep and smooth, like deep clear water. All other devices look like sh*t in comparison, and I’m only talking about the quality of the glass itself. kind of Blueish.
