HTC One remix-sized mystery device shows up at the FCC with a 4.7-inch display, may be heading to Verizon

HTC has released nearly a dozen new devices over the past few months, but none of them have made their way to the US market. A new FCC filing may be the first glimmer of hope for those of us in the US longing for a new smartphone from HTC. The HTC OPM3100 was spotted with new documentation of the FCC website earlier today, sporting Verizon-compatible LTE bands, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with Bluetooth v3+EDR and v4.1LE. While most sites are reporting that the documentation on the device is sparse, we uncovered that the phone will have a removable back panel and battery, a 4.7-inch Bitland BT047 LCD panel and a frame that measures 139.64mm x 69.8mm (147.33mm diagonally). The width of the phone is nearly identical to the HTC One M9, while the height lands somewhere between that of the One M7 and One M9.

Based Verizon’s history with HTC, the HTC OPM3100 could be the 2015 version of the HTC One Remix with a display upgrade from 4.5-inches to 4.7-inches. While we like the idea of a smaller HTC One M9 with a few tweaked spec and cheaper price point, we’re not sure anyone would really go for an HTC One Remix 2 (we’re hoping they come up with a better name) is it’s only 4mm shorter than the HTC One M9. Then again, the removable back panel and batter could mean that we’re looking at a replacement for the HTC Desire 612 which hit the market last October with a 4.7-inch qHD display, 1.2 Ghz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and an 8 megapixel camera.

Either way, we’re most likely looking at a Verizon-bound mid-range HTC smartphone that’s sell for $100 or less when purchased with a new contract. What’s your take on the HTC OPM3100? Do you think a mid-range HTC smartphone on Verizon is what the public is asking for?
