Verizon’s HTC One (M8) Lollipop update coming early March

The Android 5.0.1 update for the HTC One (M8) has been rolled out to the Unlocked, Developer and several carrier-branded variants over the past month, but Verizon’s customers still have a few weeks to wait before they can get a taste of Lollipop. Mo Versi, Vice President of Product Management at HTC shared on Twitter that the update is currently “in the lab” with an expected until early March before it is approved and released.

When HTC announced that it would not meet the self-imposed 90 day deadline for releasing Android 5.0 for the HTC One (M8) and One (M7), the company blamed Google’s buddy Lollipop code, but it’s a bit surprising that it would take Verizon more than a month longer than T-Mobile and Sprint to test and approve the software. Either HTC’s software team ran into issues with the software build for the Verizon HTC One (M8) or Verizon doesn’t see the Android 5.0.1 update as a high priority for its customers.

Hopefully, Verizon will be able to complete its testing of the Lollipop update quicker than expected and push it out to its HTC One (M8) customers before the end of February – but we’re not holding our breath.
