HTC M9 Plus details and pictures put the HTC One M9/Hima to shame

The HTC One M9/Hima took center stage earlier this week when leaked images and new design details came to light. At best, the HTC One (M9) is an incremental upgrade over last year’s HTC One (M8).

The HTC M9 Plus/Hima Ultra rumor

Enter the HTC M9 Plus (aka the HTC Hima Ultra). According to @leaksfly, the HTC M9 Plus will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with 3GB of RAM, 5.5-inch QHD display, DuoCamera setup on the back and a fingerprint scanner hidden behind a button placed below the display on the front of the phone.  Accompanying the HTC M9 Plus details are three images which show the fingerprint scanner button on the front, fingerprint quick settings toggle and DuoCamera on the back of the phone. The details shared by @leaksfly we also confirmed by @upleaks, referring to the device as the HTC Hima Ultra.

Our take on the HTC M9 Plus/Hima Ultra rumor

Honestly? We’re a bit confused. We finally have all the details of the HTC One (M9)/Hima sorted out and now HTC throws us a curve ball. Is the HTC M9 Plus the true flagship for 2015? Will both devices be released at the same time? And what about the rumored HTC Hima Ace Plus which will reportedly feature all of the same specs that have been laid out for the HTC M9 Plus?

Based on HTC’s 2014 lineup and the leaks we’ve seen so far, we’re inclined to believe that HTC is working on a family of phones with various screen sizes and exterior finishes – similar to HTC’s One (M8) and One (E8) from last year (the HTC One E8 was originally known as the HTC One M8 Ace). The HTC One (M9)/Hima will be positioned as the $200 (on-contract) flagship and the HTC M9 Plus/Hima Ultra will be the $250-$300 alternate flagship which would compete with premium devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 or the iPhone 6 Plus. The HTC Hima Ace Plus would feature all the same specs as the HTC M9 Plus/Hima Ultra but the exterior of the phone would be finished in polycarbonate instead of aluminum to bring the price down for markets across Asia.

There’s no guarantee of how things will play out, but that’s our best take based on the information that is currently available. There are no details regarding the launch of the HTC M9 Plus, but we have a feeling its debut will come with or shortly after the launch of the HTC One (M9) at Mobile World Congress.

  1. I’m strictly guessing the M9 is the flagship and the “new leak” is of a Phablet. Sort of like the iphone 6 and the 6 plus release.

  2. Crappy bit of photoshopping here. The “button” is a Samsung button and it’s not even been applied to the picture straight…

    1. Yes, It is exactly the same button. It’s weird, I do not think HTC would do that, and where are BoomSound? A more expensive cellphone without one of the best trademarks of HTC?

BUT, I think I would get The “Plus” version. I’m just getting used of M8 “big” space so it would be nice a 5.5″, I think :S

      1. If this leak is true, BoomSound is here. Top speaker as on the M8 and bottom speaker as on the Desire EYE.

  3. Im sure the design style will please whatever it is. My hopes for the big M9 though are: car kit ala M7/M8, below 8,5 mm thick design, memory card slot 128gb (deal breaker otherwise), BoomSound of same quality or better than M8, and a smaller height & width than iP6P
