Updated: HTC Zara heading to Sprint with plastic body

According to China Times, HTC is working on a new handset which is expected to make its debut in the third quarter, around the same time as the HTC One Max. While the HTC One Max will feature a premium aluminum body similar to the HTC One and the One mini, the HTC Zara is said to feature a plastic chassis. The difference in materials could signal a cheaper handset, but device like the Butterfly S show that HTC is still looking to produce high-end plastic devices.

At this point, we know absolutely nothing regarding the HTC Zara’s spec sheet, but a Tweet from @evleaks claims that the phone will be making its way to Sprint. Since HTC and Sprint are teaming up to launch the HTC 8XT running Windows Phone, we’re going to assume that the HTC Zara will be an Android based device. It’s hard to get excited about the HTC Zara since there’s no real information about the device, but we’ll be sure to share any new details we find.

Update: Looks like we finally have a bit more detail regarding the HTC Zara. According to @evleaks, the Zara is a “mashup of the One and Desire families.” It certainly doesn’t tell us much, but it does tell us that we should expect a mid-range Android phone with a few HTC one characteristics. The easy guess is that the Zara is simply Sprint’s variant of the HTC One mini. We just don’t know.
