HTC Working on new Windows RT Blue tablets set to launch later this year

HTC Working on new Windows RT Blue tablets set to launch later this year

Based on the numbers, it appears that  HTC’s new flagship smartphone is helping the Taiwanese manufacturer climb out of the fiscal hole that had developed over the past year.  Now, it appears that HTC is looking to work with Microsoft and introduce a couple of Windows RT Blue tablets later this year.  We’ve heard about this possible venture before, but there hasn’t been any new information until now.

HTC could possibly introduce the HTC R7 and HTC R12 as 7″ and 12″ models respectively.  The R in the model name could indicate the presence of Windows RT instead of a full blown windows version, but nothing is confirmed at this point.  Here are the rumored specs for these new tablets:

HTC R7

  • 2.3GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 16GB of internal storage with microSD slot
  • 7 inch Full HD resolution
  • 13 megapixel camera on back
  • Bluetooth 4.0

HTC R12

  • 2.3GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor
  • 2GB of RAM
  • 16GB of internal storage with microSD slot
  • 12 inch 2048×1536 resolution
  • 13 megapixel camera on back
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • HDMI
  • DLNA support

We could see both models equipped with some sort of connectivity options such as LTE/HSPA+ as well as WiFi.  No additional information about the battery or size has been announced.  It is speculated that these new tablets will launch on October 13th.  This makes sense as Microsoft has hinted at a fall release for Windows Blue.

Do you think this is a wise move to help HTC regain their profits, or do you feel the perception of Windows 8 many share will deter people from buying a new HTC tablet?  Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.

I feel like it’s all about marketing at this point. If Microsoft and HTC and their carriers can run a successful marketing campaign, then it will sell well. Otherwise, it will end up like the Flyer and Jetstream
