New images reveal a familiar-looking HTC M4
Yes, we’re all giddy over the HTC M7, but let’s not forget that HTC is also working on the HTC M4. The mid-range Android phone isn’t in the same league as the M7, but it should be an appealing option for anyone hoping to get a decently-equipped device at a good price.
While we know a lot about the HTC M4’s spec sheet (4.3 inch display, 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM, 2 and 5 megapixel cameras), we now have an idea of what the device will looks like, thanks to a handful of leaked images. As you can see from the pictures below, the HTC M4 bears a few similarities with the HTC M7 and the HTC One X from last year. But what caught our attention was the camera on the front and the speaker grill. Oddly enough, the new pictures of the HTC M4 look very similar to a leaked rendering of a white HTC M7 (source) which showed up in the middle of January.
We don’t see any reason to doubt the authenticity of the HTC M4 pictures, but they do raise some issues with the images we have seen of the HTC M7. We have seen multiple images of a black HTC M7 which is dramatically different than the white render of the device and HTC’s recent tease of a new sound experience gives even more credence the image that shows stereo speakers on the front of the device.
Could HTC be pulling a Samsung here? Last year, Samsung went to great length to hide the final design of the Galaxy S III. Many of the engineers who worked on the project had no clue what the final design even looked like since they used special cases and even had alternate designs of the phone during development. Alternately, HTC could have a design specifically for North America and another design for Europe and the rest of the world. It’s impossible to know.
