Windows Phone Update 7.0.7392, Rolls Out, Even to Chevron.Updater Updated Phones!

As most people would know already, the may update for Windows Phone, started rolling out today. It’s a relatively small update, for some security issues/certificates issued by a certain service Comodo. What is even more encouraging here is that the update seems to have no problem rolling out to Chevron.Updater updated phones {which I can Confirm).  I downloaded the tool when it was released, and updated my Telstra branded HTC Mozart 7, and it went smoothly. So after updating my HD7, I thought I’d try the Mozart just to check and viola. SO there’s something to be said here about the information that came from Microsoft, about the Chevron.Updater, misinformation, a poor guess, a stab in the dark? Whatever it was, Microsoft were more than likely taken by surprise, that Chris Walsh, and his compatriots were once again able to work around their so called closed mobile ecosystem.

The other thing that’s really interesting is that the phone is carrier branded, developer unlocked,  but it accepted the update on time of release, so somehow the Telstra approval process has been circumvented as well. That could either be a result of the Chevron process, or some registry edits I made trying to use another updating method I found at the same source. Whatever the case with this there seem to be enough people receiving the update that used the process to say Microsoft didn’t have a clue. No I can’t really say it’s fool proof at this point though, as lot’s of people are getting an error, 80180048. I can only theorise at this point that, because the update process backs up everything on your phone, so it might be due to a lack of free space on the PC. Either way I’ll update this post as news comes to hand. So any one else with a Walshed phone out there receive the update?

  1. Not getting it on the HTC arrive. Both the phone and zune say its up to date.

  2. Allen, this may not roll out to everyone straight away, and both my HD7 and Mozart are dev unlocked. The HD7 is not carrier branded, and I think I did enough registry editing on the Mozart to fool the update servers, considering it is Telstra branded. Was quite surprised that it updated actually. Is your Arrive carrier branded at all?
