HTC ThunderBolt for Verizon gets a new possible release date
The ThunderBolt is another of HTC’s big phones, and it’s coming to Verizon, but up till now, there doesn’t seem to have been a solid date. When I say big though, think the HD2 or the Desire HD, 4.3 inch screen, 1Ghz processor, 768 Mb of Ram, 8 Megapixel camera, Android 2.2. Usual small internal storage, with support for micro SD up to 32 Gb. Probably one of the most anticipated devices of recent time, and considering it’s a single core processor, that’s impressive. Even more of a mystery, when will it be available? BGR [Boy Genius Report] are reporting an availability date of March 21st. There seems to have been a lot of sketchy news around the phones availability, and even BGR says
We’ve just heard from two independent sources that the HTC ThunderBolt is now scheduled to launch on March 21st, following repeated delays. While our tipsters don’t have proven track records in this case, the date lines up with an earlier report that noted a March 21st release date briefly featured on HTC’s Facebook page
As the name implies, and the current carrier trend focuses on, speed is the king. As carriers update their networks to support faster network speeds, more efficient radios, consumers will want devices like the ThunderBolt yesterday! Now that there’s a semi firm date for release, how many of you will be waiting at your local Verizon store to pick one of these babies up?
According to Best Buy, the HTC ThunderBolt is going to cost $300 with a two-year Verizon service contract. That’s $100 above what is typical for a high-end smartphone.
The price may be a killer for a lot of people, but a true aficionado, will shell out for that extra speed, oh, and bragging rights! There’s a hands on video from pocketnow.com below!
