The HTC G1 retires from T-Mobile’s Android lineup

We’ve known for a long time that this day would eventually come, but none of us knew exactly when it would occur.  T-Mobile has retired the HTC G1 from their Android lineup, leaving a small void, mostly in people’s hearts.  To many, the G1 became obsolete when Google unveiled Android 2.1 on the Nexus One back in January, but we know that there are still many of you who have held on to your G1 and still use it on a daily basis.

The launch of the G1 sparked a revolution for Google in the mobile marketplace with the introduction of the Android operating system.  HTC was the first company to take their chances with the new OS.  Nearly two years later, we can say with confidence that the chance they took has paid off for them and Google.

Though the G1 is no longer for sale from T-Mobile, it’s legacy will live on as long as the Android platform does.  On a personal note, I still use my G1 as my main device for day-to-day use.  It has served me well over the past 21 months and I have no plans on giving it up when I eventually to crack under the pressure of getting a new phone.  I’m sure many of you have a few fond thoughts about the G1, so please feel free to share them with the rest of us.
