HTC’s latest Touch 3G comes with a light version of their TouchFLO 3D which gives the device a slick new interface. Now, HTC is offering the same TouchFLO 2D for those who purchased the 128MB HTC Touch from last year. All you need to do is head over to www.htc.com, log into your account and download the firmware upgrade. Unfortunately HTC will not be releasing the interface for the original 64MB Touch since the firmware upgrade would consume too much of the limited memory on the device. But if you are willing to give it a try, head over to xda-developers. I have had TouchFLO 2D installed on my original 64MB Touch for a few months now and it runs just fine. You’ll just have to give up installing other apps since memory is quite limited.

The past month has revelaed some details on the HTC MAX 4G, as well as some spy shots of the device. Today HTC has officially announced the MAX 4G, the world’s first integrated GSM/WiMAX handset. The HTC MAX 4G will be available onnly from Russia’s Scartel WiMAX network (Yota). At the moment, HTC has no plans on introducing the device into the U.S. market. The HTC MAX 4G was designed for video on demand, full track music downloads, online gaming, file exchange and a host of Internet content at true broadband speeds.

Apparently, HTC is thinking that the U.S. market is ready for some lower end Windows Mobile 6.1 handsets. We first learned about the HTC Opal a few months back. It’s basically a re-hash of the HTC Touch (mostly the same hardware) but runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 and uses HTC’s dumbed down version of TouchFLO 3D, TouchFLO 2D. At the moment we are still not sure who will be carrying the Opal, but the GSM/EDGE connectivity and support of the 850 and 1900MHz frequencies gives us a good indication that T-Mobile or At&t customers will be the lucky winners. We’re willing to speculate that once the HTC Opal hits the streets, the price point will be just right. Currently the Sprint Touch is selling for the low price of $49 with a new two year agreement. I can’t imagine the Opal going for more than $150 since it’s essentially the same handset with a fresh new interface.
The HTC Touch HD is getting more camera time than the Android powered G1. Some recent pictures were taken with the Touch HD and the iPhone side by side. As we’ve noted in the past, the Touch HD is essentially the same size as the iPhone, but features a 800 x 480 display and boasts a 5MP camera. We also just turned up a new video which put the HTC Touch HD and the iPhone side by side, comparing web browsing, camera, and YouTube playback. For a long time, most of us were a little disappointed, thinking that the HTC Diamond was HTC’s true competitor for the iPhone. The HTC Touch HD has stepped things up with a much larger screen, 3.5mm headphone jack, and an autofocus camera.

SONY and HTC have been working hard to get the XPERIA X1 out the door. Though we have seen a lot of pictures and a little of the panel interface, the video above goes a lot deeper into the phone than ever before. The clip is a bit long, but this is something you do not want to miss.
The XPERIA is still expected to launch in Q4 of this year!
Last week we got wind that HTC would be revealing the viva (Opal) as a replacement for the original HTC Touch. But here, we have the hTCTouch 3G. As the name implies, this will be a 3G replacement for the HTC Touch. The design has changed just a little and will features a 14.5mm of thick body. The hTC Touch 3G will feature a "next-generation TouchFLO" interface as well.

One of the developers on xda-developers.com has just ported a new ROM over to the HTC Polaris with what looks to be Manila (TouchFLO) 2D. udK has not give much info on where the original ROM came from, but as you can see the interface is very similar to the one of the HTC Diamond, but runs a lot faster. The assumption is that the ROM was ported from the HTC Opal, which is expected to lanch next week in Asian as a replacement for the HTC Touch. At the moment, a few other developers on xda-developers are working to extract Manila 2D from the ROM and port the program over to other HTC device.

UPDATE: The geniuses on xda-developers have been able to get the Manila 2D interface to run on almost all HTC device. There are a few glitches still since there is a lot of extra software that the interface relies on to work properly, but it’s definitely the best interface upgrade anyone could ask for.
