HTC Omni and HTC Google Dream are same device?

HTC Omni and HTC Google Dream are same device?

Less than 24 hours have passed since Google announced their plans for a Mobile OS and web browser and already there are rumors flying around about the HTC “Dream” and weather or not the HTC Omni fits the specs.  We first heard about the HTC Omni about one year ago, but since then, things have been silent on any development progress on the device.

The similarities between the rumored HTC Dream phone and the HTC Omni are a few. The 3-inch by 5-inch size, rectangular touchscreen, full QWERTY that swivels out, and a beveled edge that "nestles in the palm" give the impression that these two devices are one and the same. Unfortunately we have no real concrete evidence quite yet as HTC has assured us it will be months before we see the actual Dream Phone.

Google announces their Mobile Plans

November 5, 2007 |

The speculation is now over.  For months we have been waiting to hear what Google's mobile plans will be.  This monring, Google released their vision and strategy.  Rather than having a single gPhone, google has opted for a Linux bases OS for mobile devices with an integrated web browser which

will display websites the same way your PC browser does.

Googles strategy is to get nearly 3 Billion cell phone users to view their ads to increase their own revenue.  The new OS will be open source and will not feature Google's brand.  The hope is that each manufacturer will use the free OS to pewer their phone, making software development cheaper as well.

More good news is that all the different gPhone prototype designs you've seen around the web may actually come true since all the cell phone makers have to do is design something that will work with Googles OS.
