HTC unveils the Vive Pro with high-resolution displays

HTC typically doesn’t have much of a presence at CES, but the company bucked that trend this year by announcing an updated version of the HTC Vive – the new Vive Pro. The new HMD doesn’t look much different from the original Vive, but it does come with a bump in resolution for its two displays (2880 x 1600 versus the 1080 x 1200 resolution of the original), built-in headphones which deliver immersive 3D audio and a new strap which improved the ergonomics of the headset which should make it more comfortable to use.

HTC stressed that the new headset is fully compatible with the original base stations and controllers and will be offered as a complete package or headset-only upgrade for current Vive owners who simply want the updated experience offered by the Vive Pro HMD.

Unfortunately, HTC did not announce when the Vive Pro will be available for purchase or what they will be charging for it.
