HTC won’t be selling the U11+ in North America, but they should

The title of the article says it all. HTC has decided that North America will not be getting the HTC U11+. When I learned this news, I reached out to our contact at HTC to share more light on HTC’s reasoning. The decision not to bring the HTC U11+ to the US or Canada was made because the company hadn’t had much luck selling its mid-cycle flagship refreshes and devices with large screens in the two countries.

Basically, it’s your fault that you won’t be able to buy the HTC U11+ if you live in North America. Or that’s at least the way HTC sees it.

But that’s not the real issue here. Sure, the HTC U Ultra was a dud, but that wasn’t your fault – it was HTC’s. The phone was considered a mid-cycle flagship smartphone with a large display, but it hit the US market only one month before the Samsung Galaxy S8 did. We never had a chance to review the U Ultra, but we know that battery life was a real issue and its camera wasn’t as good as the HTC 10’s.

On paper and in the real world, the HTC U Ultra was nothing more than a disappointment.

Fast forward to today’s announcement and we’re looking at a device that’s leaps and bounds better than the U Ultra and even HTC’s flagship U11. There’s no doubt in my mind that sales of the HTC U11+ will do much better than the U Ultra did – even without being available in the US and Canada.

I don’t have a clue as to why HTC thinks the consumers in North America wouldn’t pounce on the U11+ if they had the opportunity. Sure, there are a lot of options out there if you’re in the market for a device with a 6-inch display, but with all the bad news that’s been circulating regarding the bad displays on the LG V30 and the Pixel 2 XL, HTC definitely would have had a leg up on the competition for once.

  1. This is upsetting becuz I’ve been very dissatisfied with my HTC10 which I’ve had software issues with and Sprint and HTC seem to not be able to correct my issue. So I’m left with doing a early upgrade ( paying my 10 off early and upgrading. ) I was thinking the U11+ would be the next viable option. Unless HTC changes their mind and sells in the US and thru Sprint.

Bad form HTC, bad form …

  2. Been ready to buy this since I heard of it and cancelled my Pixel 2 XL order. The last HTC phone I had was the M9 – disappointing. Not this. Done with even considering HTC.

    Regards.

  3. imo, coz google won’t allow the u11+ to compete with their pixel 2xl & therefore resulting less sales.

  4. This is the phone they should have put out in the first place. I bought the U11 and couldn’t buy the U11+ if it was in the U. S. and I have never owned anything other than HTC and I love my U11 but would have loved to had that screen and battery on the U11+.

  5. I too was waiting on this HTC , this is really the only brand I prefer. I’m wondering if I can somehow import one if it will work here in the US. Guess I’m praying their next release is as good as this cause the U 11+ was going to be a beast . Pray they reconsider
