HTC U11 update delivers Bluetooth 5, 60FPS video recording and July’s security update

Did anyone happen to check the calendar today? That’s right, it’s 10.08! To celebrate, HTC has released an update for the HTC U11 which adds Bluetooth 5, 60FPS (at 1080p) video recording, July’s security patch and other unnamed “system enhancements.”

The device we have is the Taiwanese model, but HTC should have the update available for the unlocked EMEA and North American models within the next days (or weeks).

If you have not received the update notification on your Taiwanese HTC U11 yet, you can go to Settings > About > Software Updates > Check Now to manually trigger the download. The 1.26.709.3 update is a hefty 624.59MB, so we recommend being connected to a decent WiFi network and having at least a 50% charge before initiating the download.

  1. Did anyone happen to check the calendar today? That’s right, it’s 10.08!
And yet, HTC last year’s flagship, the HTC 10, was last updated 8 months ago, in January, meaning that it is still with the January Security Patch!
    Great news, right?

    1. You are right. I’ve been a htc fan for years but their attitude towards European customers is inexcusable. Their products are so much more expensive here but customer service is miles behind. I’m seriously considering going to a different brand.

        1. Andre, as I’ve mentioned to you, the fact that HTC has not released security patches for a phone is not really news. If that was the case, I would need to write dozens of stories each month about each device in HTC’s lineup which is not getting a security patch. Every news site that covers smartphones would be writing about every single device every month that didn’t get a patch. If you follow general tech news, you’ll see that a phone getting regular security patches is an exception, not the rule.

I’m not defending HTC in any way. Based on my sources, HTC is working on a few update for the EU HTC 10 which will also include a new security patch. Would you rather just have an update which only includes a security patch or do you want one which fixes other issues or maybe even adds new features in addition to including the latest security patch?

    2. Have you actually checked the Updates page on their website? Maybe YOUR phone was last updated then, but the Unlocked HTC 10 was last updated 7/31 with the July security patch, and the Sprint version got the same update 8/9. T-Mo and Verizon are a little further behind, but still much more recent than January.

      1. You are mistaking the American unlocked version of the HTC 10, which was updated in July, with the EUROPEAN unlocked version of the HTC 10, which was last updated 8 months ago.

  2. You can’t even get HTC in Canada unless you buy it from them. I had the HTC One m7 and I had to repair my HTC m8 cause the LG g5 is crap. I read a lot of reviews and the the HTC phones are always getting half ass reviews. I love there old phones they’re rugged and always fast. The biggest problem is price way to much for them here.
