HTC U 11 to feature ‘360 real-life recording’

The HTC U 11 will be unveiled in less than five days, but the latest official teaser has just revealed a feature which the phone’s numerous leaks haven’t touched on yet. The video clip shows motorcyclists riding in a circle around a woman who is using a phone to record the event. That’s in. No text and no audio either.

The new HTC U 11 feature is actually listed as plan text in the video description; listed as “360 real-life recording.”

Now, we’re not 100% sure what 360 real-life recording means in HTC’s world, but when someone references 360 recording, they’ve typically talking about a device which records a single video with two or more cameras. That video can then be uploaded to YouTube and watches with a VR headset or users can watch it and scroll around the 360-degree environment with their finger of mouse.

A smartphone is definitely capable of recording 360-degree video, as long as the lenses on the front and back of the device are wide enough. Based on what the rumors have revealed, the HTC U 11 isn’t expected to have such lenses – leaving us a bit perplexed.

While we typically know all the details of a phone before it’s unveiled, not knowing the details of the HTC U 11’s “360 real-life recording” capabilities makes us even more excited for the launch event on May 16.
