Rumors reveal codes names for three upcoming Pixel phones

We’ve known since last year that Google and HTC will be partnering to build Pixel phones for at least three years, but a new rumor claims that Google is looking to expand the reach of its Pixel phones in 2017 by increasing its device portfolio from 2 to 3 devices.

Earlier this week, a rumor surfaced, revealing that Google’s 2017 Pixel phones are internally being referred to as “walleye” and “muskie.” Since a walleye is smaller than a muskie, the assumption is that the Walleye will be the replacement for the standard Pixel and the Muskie would replace the Pixel XL. The rumor seems pretty solid since most everyone is expecting Google to replace the two Pixel phones form last year with new models this fall.

But there’s a second rumor which has everyone scratching their head. According to this rumor, there’s a third phone in the works which is being referred to as “taimen.” The source claims that the phone will have a larger display than the Walleye and Muskie devices, but the actual size of that display is unknown.

With last year’s Pixel and Pixel XL respectively featuring 5.0 and 5.5-inch displays, the display on the Taimen could range from 5.7 to over 6-inches. That may sound excessive, but LG G6 features a 5.7-inch display which fits into the body of a phone that’s only slightly larger than the HTC 10.

At this time, no other details are known regarding Google’s three 2017 Pixel phones. With the amount of praise last year’s Pixel and Pixel XL received, the Walleye, Muskie and Taimen could be a huge success for Google. We just hope Google and HTC can figure out a way to make enough of the two phones to satisfy consumer demand.

How interested would you be in a Pixel XXL with a 6-inch display if Google and HTC manage make the phone smaller than the HTC U Ultra?

  1. I would not go higher than 5.7″. The Motorola 6″ phone failed because it was considered too bulky.

  2. Yep, the HTC Ocean rumor mill is churning. I’m feeling like I may need to return my 10 to Sprint and just wait on perhaps, the Ocean to drop. Unless they pull a Verizon exclusive again
