How to SIM unlock the HTC 10

The HTC 10 is one of the best smartphones of 2016. The device is incredibly powerful, its design is like no other smartphone on the market and its camera is second best to the HTC-built Pixel. But if you’re reading this article, you already know all that. You’re here because the phone you own is SIM locked to the service provider you purchased the phone from and you’re looking for a way to SIM unlock your HTC 10.

While there have been a handful of hacks to unlock some HTC phone for free in the past, the only free SIM unlocking method for the HTC 10 is to request the unlock code from your service provider. If you don’t qualify for a free ISM unlock code, the only other option is to use service like HTC SIM Unlock which sell SIM unlock code for the HTC 10 at a reasonable price.

The detailed instructions below will walk you through how to sim unlock your HTC 10.

NOTE: If you purchased the HTC 10 from T-Mobile, please follow the T-Mobile Device Unlock app instructions at the bottom. Other SIM unlock methods will not work.

Free HTC 10 SIM unlock (service provider request)

As stated above, the only way to get a free SIM unlock code for the HTC 10 is to request the code from your service provider. Unfortunately, not everyone will qualify for a free SIM unlock code since service providers have a handful of requirements which must be met before they hand over the code.

  1. Open the phone app/dialer on your HTC 10 and type *#06# to view your phone’s IMEI number
  2. Call your service provider customer service line to request your HTC 10’s SIM unlock code
  3. When asked, provide them with your phone’s IMEI number
  4. If you qualify for the free ISM unlock code, it will be emailed to you in 2-5 days
  5. Once you get the code, replace the phone’s SIM card with one from another service provider
  6. When prompted, enter the HTC 10’s SIM unlock code

If you don’t qualify for a free code, unlocking the HTC 10 to work on any service provider is still extremely easy when going through a third-party service like HTC SIM Unlock.

  1. On your HTC 10, dial *#06# to view your phone’s IMEI number
  2. Go to htcsimunlock.com or a similar site to purchase the SIM unlock code
  3. Use the IMEI number from your HTC 10 to complete your purchase
  4. Typically, your unlock code will be emailed to you in 30 minutes or less
  5. Swap out your phone’s SIM card with one from another service provider
  6. Enter the HTC 10 SIM unlock code when prompted

T-Mobile Device Unlock – HTC 10

T-Mobile has modified the software on the HTC 10 and other phones that it sells so that the phone can only be unlocked using the T-Mobile Device Unlock app which is pre-installed on all T-Mobile phone. If the app has been removed from the phone, you can download it through the Google Play Store.

  1. Dialing *#06# on your phone to get your IMEI number
  2. Visit androidsimunlock.com to purchase their T-Mobile Device Unlock service using the phone’s IMEI number
    • The T-Mobile Device Unlock service typically takes 12-48 hours to process
  3. When you receive email confirmation that the service has processed, turn off cellular service and switch the phone to WiFi only
  4. Open the T-Mobile Device Unlock app and select “Permanent Unlock“
  5. The app will SIM unlock the phone once it reboots
