HTC Halfbeak breaks cover with 5 leaked photos

After a year or rumors, the long-overdue HTC Halfbeak has broken cover. Five leaked images of HTC’s first smartwatch hit Weibo a few hours ago, giving us a look at the watch’s design. As expected, the HTC Halfbeak features a circular display (likely 360×360 pixels) with two physical buttons on the edge of the device. The images also show that the smartwatch has a heart rate sensor, pogo charging and sync pins and Under Armour logos on the front and back. The smartwatch also sports a red and black rubber wrist strap which matches the same design of the rubber strap of the UA Band.

What’s not clear is if the body of the HTC Halfbeak is made of plastic of metal. One of the shots shows a metal chamfered edge around the display, but there are other parts of the watch’s body which look like plastic. This wouldn’t be too surprising given the Under Armour branding. The HTC Halfbeak will likely launch as a fitness-centric Android Wear smartwatch, similar to the Moto 360 Sport.

There’s no indication that HTC will be launching a second version of the HTC Halfbeak with a more refined design which would go head-to-head with the Moto 360, LG Watch Urbane or Huawei Watch. Launching a “UA Watch” may make financial sense, but we know a lot of people would be interested to see what a true HTC smartwatch would have to offer.
